The program connects large contractors with startups. “This helps give them the tools they need to be better business people, be more effective, more efficient and not having to run into those brick walls,” Winsley Durand III, REACH’s executive director, explained. Santo’s mentor is Kris Montgomery, a project manager at McCarthy Building Companies. “Honestly, going into that, I was a little nervous that I wasn’t going to be able give Mark the value that he was looking for out of a mentorship,” Montgomery said. Santo, however, said the mentorship has grown his business in a major way. The man tells KETV he is now negotiating larger contracts and he’s on track for a record revenue year.“We definitely consider the result of this experience a game changing result,” Santo added.Montgomery believes Mark VII could eventually become the size of McCarthy. “The folks that have small businesses are climbing a hill to begin with,” said Santo. “To give them an opportunity to make that hill a little easier to climb is really rewarding.”
